Kabul falls, as Taliban claim peace in Afghanistan.

Over the last 48 hours people in Australia have seen and heard some horrific pictures beaming into our lounge rooms. As US forces were sent into Kabul to evacuate US ambassadors and other staff members who have helped the US in the past 2 decades.

Pictures beamed into our living rooms on ABC 24, which not only are confronting to watch as adults, but are heartbreaking to see so many people be trapped with the military nowhere to be seen.

US president Joe Biden says he stands by US withdrawal from Afghanistan. “The truth is, this did unfold more quickly than we had anticipated” US President Joe Biden said at his press conference “If anything, the developments of the past week reinforce that ending US military involvement now was the right decision.”

According to people close to Mr Biden he had to follow through with an agreement made by the former US president Donald Trump, under which US forces would be out of the 20-year war by May of this year.

What’s next for the people of Afghanistan?

Afghanistan is already a humanitarian disaster, according to reports on the ground of Afghanistan hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced and are heading to the border hoping to escape. Others are left to fend for themselves. In the last 24 hours we have seen Afghanistan media remove all female presenters from the TV, a sure sign to come that the Taliban way of life may return where women should not be seen in public, and that young girls don’t get schooling.

As for US involvement in Afghanistan Mr Biden has said “I stand squarely behind my decision… After 20 years, I’ve learned the hard way that there was never a good time to withdraw US forces.”

But now the world looks and will judge Mr Biden as well as all those presidents that sent thousands of US troops and over the 20 year war saw close to 2000 US Military die while fighting what many are saying was not our place to begin with.

Questions will also be asked of Biden about what strength have the US Military given the Taliban since according to Biden the US government spent over a Trillion US dollars on a war that they did not win. A war that was not worth standing up for when the time got tough.
