As a long-time fan of Ricki-Lee, I was thrilled to hear that she was releasing a new single, "On My Own." I was even more excited to hear that this single was just a taste of what was to come, as she had an album scheduled for release later in the year.
Ricki-Lee has had a storied career in the Australian music industry, rising to fame on the second season of Australian Idol in 2004. Though she only placed seventh in the competition, she went on to have a successful career as a singer/songwriter. She has achieved multiple Multi-Platinum and Gold selling singles, and has sold over one million records globally. With four number one hits on the ARIA Dance Chart and UK Club Charts, and 15 top 20 singles on the ARIA charts, Ricki-Lee has cemented her place as one of Australia's greatest vocalists.
But it has been almost three years since Ricki-Lee's last single release, and fans have been eagerly awaiting new music. With "On My Own," she did not disappoint. The song is a departure from her previous music, with a more left-field sound that showcases her versatility as an artist.
The lyrics of "On My Own" are particularly powerful. The line "It's me against the world" is something that many of us can relate to. We all have times when the world seems dark and we feel alone. But Ricki-Lee's message is one of hope and resilience. She sings, "I am not afraid to walk alone, I walk alone I walk alone." It's a reminder that we can overcome even the toughest times on our own, and that we are stronger than we think.
Ricki-Lee co-wrote and produced "On My Own" with Australian hitmakers DNA (Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci), who she has been working with secretly for over a year. In an interview, DNA praised Ricki-Lee's dedication to quality and her refusal to settle for anything less than what she felt in her heart and gut. They described the studio sessions as a reminder of just how talented Ricki-Lee is, and how high she always aims.
For Ricki-Lee, "On My Own" is more than just a song. It's the song of her life, and she says that if it's the last song she ever puts out, she can hang her hat up and say that she's happy. It's everything she's ever wanted to say in a song. And as a fan, I can say that it's everything I've ever wanted to hear from her.
I am excited to see what else Ricki-Lee has in store for us with her upcoming album. With her incredible voice and songwriting skills, I have no doubt that it will be another hit. And as she continues to push boundaries and explore new sounds, I will be eagerly listening, ready to be inspired and moved by her music once again.
Starting on Monday, April 3rd, fans of Ricki-Lee will have a chance to hear her new single "On My Own" on DRN1's Fresh7@7 show, which will be airing from 7am. So mark your calendars and tune in to DRN1 to catch the latest from this iconic Australian singer/songwriter.
